News


We are indeed looking through the misty window for rays of light. The bad news today is that POM's sister, SurvivorMommy, received results from a PET scan today and learned that her cancer-free status no longer applies. One lesion on her lung and several on her liver are again active and growing.

Background: She had been diagnosed with stage IV metastatic colon cancer a year and eight months ago, had a colon resection, over a year of chemo, over a year and a half of self-assigned alkaline diet plus other dietary measures, and a year and eight months of international prayers and faith and a positive outlook. She is just a couple of months off liver surgery and a clean bill of health.

We are petitioning God for a complete cure and healing. We know this is possible because it's already happened once. We may be selfish, but we tend to think her five kids need her. If you're of the praying persuasion, we covet your prayers. If not, we'll take your positive intentions. Thank you. Updates as they are available.

Testing 1-2-3-

4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14...or something like that. Mandated state testing is upon us, and we've chosen to draw it out over three and a half weeks. The reason for this is it allows us to test our own students in our subjects in our regular classes. It means block scheduling four days each week. While it sounds grueling, I'm ready for something different. It's what will keep us sane in this long stretch to Memorial Day. Also, once I'm finished with my four days of testing (English gets to go first), I don't have to worry about it anymore and I can just concentrate on my classes. The AP test is causing me a little more consternation -- it's coming up on May 14, so quickly -- but I have a plan, and anyway my kids will perform as they will perform.

No pix today, so I'll pull one from earlier this week. Took this in the morning. It's not great, but it's good enough to get the effect across. Note my neighbor's awesome pink tree, too.

My Day...

...was spent administering this. The kids said they thought it was easy. I have to admit, that always scares me.



But we did spend the past week and a half doing intensive review and revving for it. Love it when we have to suspend regular instruction for test prep. Oh, the irony! (Or as Bart Simpson would say, Oh, the ironing!)

Also love the student who told me he did well on this essay, explaining that in class he doesn't usually do his best work. I asked him why. He said, "Well, it's like you said...it's about graduation!" I had to remind him that he actually has to pass four years of English in order to graduate as well.

Where have I failed?
