Monday Night in the City

Of course, today was the day I left the camera at home, thinking I didn't want to carry it around Local University Campus, where I went for a training workshop.

Of course, today was the day the snow and clouds clung to the local mountains, contrasting strikingly with the lower crazy-green hills.

Of course, today was the day the sky lowered, and the clouds flattened out on their undersides and contrasted mightily with the blue and sun behind, and we were spattered with Charlie Brown rain (only over our heads, while twenty feet away it was dry).

Of course, today was the day the sunset broke pink and splashed it all over the white mountain of cloud and snow.

Of course, today was the day of the photos that got away.

Oh well. I appreciate the moody darks and glowing lights of this backyard shot. I thank the sweet lord for our trees, for lo, behold what I would behold daily without them.

I can see why your grateful for the tree, I too used to have a backyard with a 6 storey walk up across the back alley and I loved the manitoba maples (weed trees) and lilacs that helped to screen us from the windows.

I like this shot too, the lit windows look almost like lanterns hung in the tree!

I have an old, small pentax film camera that I am thinking of carrying around with me when my dslr is just too big.

I too continually miss the great photo because I just don't want to lug the dslr around. Ah, well. That's what my lomo is for, when I remember it.

i call our mini-skyscraper "hong kong." for some reason, this sixties monolith makes me think of the pictures i've seen of urban hong kong.

weed trees? is that their real name, or does it indicate the status of their proliferation?

i really like the contrast of the dark limbs and warm lit lights. yes, lanterns in trees! exactly! the effect feels mountain-y, like camping at a cabin.

i did it again, twice more this week, not carrying my camera and living to regret it. i think i must just suck it up, buy a holster-style case, and carry the damn thing around everywhere. i'm missing too many shootable, bloggable, and/or teachable moments.

ah, the lomo! makes me want to break out the holga again!
