#21 NaPoWriMo -- off-topic again

Too late a night spent grading
to work up a draft
to meet a prompt.
So these impromptu
lines
will have to do.

***

The wind tonight
is steady and cold,
firm and fierce,
promising rain,
but sometimes
the wind lies.

When I lived in the desert of southern Arizona it was common for the wind, and the storm clouds, to deceive us....a promise of rain broken. sigh.

Yes, it does. I like this...the idea of nature promising and lying...

it's funny to come back and read this today. i have almost no memory of having written this last night. just proof that we often get in the way of the true poem when we're conscious and too manipulative.

today we were supposed to have rain again all day, and we only got smatterings and spatterings. but do we learn from these disappointments? alas, no. i see on weather.com that we may have rain again next week and next weekend, and already i'm hopeful and anticipating. lol. silly humans.

thanks, terry and robin, for commenting! robin, i've been enjoying reading your daily poem posts. i've been playing along unofficially. i didn't trust myself to take the official plunge, and i wouldn't have forgiven myself if i'd pledged and then failed. (this way if i fail, i can console myself that it's not a broken promise! hah!)
