More news

I just learned that Pauline Baynes, illustrious illustrator of Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia and the Middle Earth wall map, among many other things, died this week. How sad. The official obituary her friend published is very thorough and quite moving, but I found his blog tribute more powerful because of the images of her artwork that he included. I cannot tell you, in looking at the tribute, how many of her images are fused into my brain from childhood exposure! Is it weird, then, that one of her images is what I was considering for my tattoo (or at least as a starting point for it)?

[I initially learned this at my friend's blog, The Painful Nowning Process. Thanks, Elizabeth, for posting about it. I hadn't known.]

Thank you for writing about Pauline and for the links to my obituary and blog. The sense of so many people grieving at her passing is amazingly comforting.

thanks, brian, for commenting. she was an awesome artist with such a wide influence! i'm just sorry the news of her passing wasn't more widely covered here in the states. it would have seemed appropriate.

So many of those images are etched into my mind as well. The one that hit me the hardest, looking through Brian's blog post is surprisingly not the map of Middle Earth but the drawing of Lucy and Mr. Tumnus walking away from the lamppost. Thanks linking to the post and the obit. I doubt I would have known otherwise.

And, now my curiosity is really piqued about this tattoo. Tell us more? Still a dragon?
